Edirne Saatli Madrasa was organized by Edirne Governorship and Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University as the first Fatih Sultan Mehmet Museum in Turkey. In the thematically prepared museum, each wall of the madrasa cells has witnessed sections from the life of Fatih Sultan Mehmet. The madrasah, which has been converted into a museum, is designed like a contemporary picture book in which traditional arts are interpreted with today's technology. The exhibition and content design of the museum project was carried out by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hasan Fırat Diker from our Faculty, and the script and texts were prepared by Assoc. Dr. Mustafa Golec and Dr. İlhami Danış from Department of History of FSMVU. Architect Rüveyda Korkut who graduated from our faculty, was the assistant of the project and our faculty instructor Dr. Sevgi Ağca Diker contributed to the exhibition and arrangement works of the museum.
In this multi-layered and participatory museum, a first in Turkey, sections from the life of Fatih Sultan Mehmet are described with dioramas in 1/5, 1/20, 1/30, 1/50 and 1/100 scales and figures specially designed for them. Figures modeled in computer environment for dioramas were printed from resin in 3D printers and painted by hand.
In the main room of the madrasa, the miniature in Taşköprülüzâde's work named Şakâyık-i Nu'mâniyye was animated. The wool carpet, which was redesigned inspired by the carpet pattern found in the miniature, was specially woven in İzmir Selçuk. Constructed by sculptor Hakan Temur, Fatih Sultan Mehmed, Mahmud Pasha, Hocazâde, Seyyidî Ali and Molla Zeyrek were made of silicone in exact measurements, and were dressed with special designs inspired by original fabrics and models by fashion designer Tanju Babacan.
Each wall of the Saatli Madrasa cells is designed like the pages of a book devoted to Fatih's life, while taking its visitors on a journey through time using today's technology, and is equipped with animated/still pictures and texts. For the first time, without adding an interface to the walls of the building, pictures, infographic maps and texts were printed with the wall printer application in a museum building.
Other exciting element of the museum is the model of the conquest army marching from Edirne to the conquest of Istanbul accompanied by Gülbank, reinterpreted by musician Toygar Işıklı. The army model, which was produced with a meticulous study fed by historical information, was made of brass in 1/200 scale. Another surprise waiting for museum visitors in the courtyard is the Fatih installation, designed from suspended metal spheres. In the museum, which has the mission of introducing Fatih to future generations, Saatli Madrasa model and thematic puzzles prepared by Architects Mustafa Birer and Ayşegül Yılmaz who is also a graduate of our Faculty, await child visitors in the activity room.
The madrasah, which was allocated for Fatih Sultan Mehmed, who conquered Istanbul and opened the New Age by closing the Middle Ages and having a genius above the conditions and technologies of the period he lived in, was transformed into a museum by using today's technologies with the perception and art of the period in which he was raised, in honor of his memory.
